Mission Trip to Nairobi, Kenya  --- May 30 – June 14, 2006

Funds:  $51,300     (per person airfare, lodging, safari, fees ~ $2615 times 13 = $ 34,000)

Computer & Guitar ~ $2,000      BishopÕs Programs ~ $1,000

 

Source of funds:  Team memberÕs personal funds, individual sponsorships, donations, and church fundraisers (dinner/dance and silent auction),  medicine donated from outside organizations

Activities in Kenya:

á       Contributed funds for building materials and assist in the construction of beams, columns, and walls for Synod building to be used for activities in support of orphans, poor, and widows and as a source of rental income for the Synod

á       Provided funds for employing and feeding 25 Kenyan workers for 5 weeks

á       Visited churches and orphan schools in Nairobi – provide toys, books, and clothing

á       Delivered over 600 pounds of medicines to three clinics for free distribution

á       Participated in worship services and activities at several churches

á       Directed music and other activities with youth at several churches

á       Established friendships with pastors and church members

á       Held daily devotion and sharing gatherings with team members

á       Provided computer and guitar to the Bishop for his ministry activities

á       Assisted the Bishop in giving food to poor

á       Left tools for future construction, and clothing for distribution by the Bishop

 

á       Experienced shopping and photography of the sights around Nairobi

á       Traveled to Maasai Mara for two-day safari

 

Activities upon returning:

á       Establishing  ÒNairobi NeighborsÓ

á       Presentation at DHUMC Wednesday night program – July 12

á       Reunion and sharing evening at the DuncanÕs – July 22

á       Presented testimonies at NDUMC Worship Service – July 23

á       Began small fundraising/publicity activities – (blueberry sales netting over $200)

 

Goals:

á       Assist in installation of the roof for the building plus other building essentials

á       Return to Kenya with small team in 2007, larger team in 2008

á       Continue to develop friendships with Nairobi pastors and friends via e-mail

á       Explore additional fund raising and sponsorship activities

á       Establish other connections with Kenya and Kenyans – sponsoring orphans

á       Develop addition ways to Òspread the wordÓ about the needs – website, etc.
